Mark 404’s as Fixed in Google Search Console

  1. Go to Google Search Console (https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/home)
  2. Sign In
    1. Note that RWP sites use the “[email protected]” email address and the login for that Google account is in the RWP vault in 1password.
    2. The FreeUp sites use the “[email protected]” and that login is in the FreeUp Shared vault.
  3. You may see 2 different properties claimed (one is the www and one is the non-dub version. You need to use the same one that the site defaults to. If unsure, open the site and type in the URL. If the URL defaults to the www version, then this is the property that you will use.
  4. Click on the correct property (ie. www.domain.com or http://domain.com)
  5. Click crawl → Crawl errors
  6. Go to your crawl error spreadsheet and click the bad URL and double-check that it indeed redirects.
  7. Find the URL that you just tested in the list of crawl errors, check the box and then click the red “mark as fixed” button.
  8. Do this for all of the crawl errors that you just handled the redirections for.
